6often Charity Christianity The theological virtue defined as love directed first toward God but also toward oneself and one's neighbors as objects of God's love.

Charity
(1 Cor. 13), the rendering in the Authorized Version of the word which properly denotes love, and is frequently so rendered (always so in the Revised Version). It is spoken of as the greatest of the three Christian graces (1 Cor. 12:31-13:13).
Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary

There have always been Con men and women who have started, what they term, Charities. Ripping off donors and targeted recipients/causes to only enrich themselves!
But by the end of the 20th century, and now into the 21st, many have turned them into Big Business Operations, disregarding the meaning of Charity, spinning off other business opportunities connected with the running of the charity and the promotion.
For those who run these operations it means a low labor operation for them with huge sums of money pouring in, and in most cases Free Labor by Well Meaning People who Volunteer and do the Real Work.
There are also many who give up possible more lucrative positions in the private sector to work for these charities at much reduced wages and benefits because they to are Well Meaning People who get great satisfaction in helping others or taking on needed causes for a Better World and Communities.
Charities should Not be allowed to become Personal Banks for the founders and top executives which run them. And any starting a charity should heed the meaning of and run same, on the daily basis, following the meaning and intent.
Many have become what they are, personal piggybanks, through their influence on Corrupt Politics, of getting the laws changed to benefit themselves, not the recipients of the purposes of some of these charities, charities in name only! They are also not only depending on the Charity of many to donate they are also feeding at the trough of the public monies and getting huge tax breaks, furthering the growth of their bottom line, Personal Wealth!
Charities started to help the Nations Veterans have always been around, many running on the legit, while many fall under the ease of the Profits Wars Generate, especially Wars Of Choice, they join their breathern the War Profitteers, with No Shame!
The American Institute of Philanthropy came out with a Report, at the end of last year, leading to an investigation by ABC News, than others, which in turn led to a Hearing to Assess Veterans' Charities in the House of Representatives.
On Thursday, the Committee held a hearing to examine whether all the charitable groups raising money for the purpose of helping our nation’s veterans are genuinely serving that need. Concerns have been raised that some charities are conducting high volume mail and telemarketing campaigns that enrich the organizations and fundraisers but fail to provide meaningful assistance to veterans. The hearing will include a discussion of what Americans can do to ensure that their contributions to veterans’ causes are being responsibly used.

ABC News had written and video reports, in December of '07, on their findings. I combined that video with a followup video report givin only a few days ago, Jan 17th '08,
Veterans Charity Outrage!

on the same day another House Committee held hearings for further Investigation into Veterans' Charities Continues
The Committee held a hearing entitled “Assessing Veteran’s Charities – Part Two.” This hearing focused on charities operated by Roger Chapin, who failed to comply with a subpoena compelling his testimony at the December 13 hearing. Over the past 40 years, Mr. Chapin has established and operated more than 20 charitable organizations, including a number of veterans’ and military-oriented charities. Questions have been raised about the practices of his current charitable organizations.

Below are links to the ABC reports, followups and related reports

Failing to Serve America's Heroes on the Home Front

Scam Alert: Charity Outrage
Charity groups claim to support troops but don't fully deliver on promises.

Gen. Tommy Franks Paid $100,000 To Endorse 'F' Veterans Charity
Retired U.S. Army Gen. Tommy Franks, who led the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, was paid $100,000 to endorse a veterans charity that watchdog groups say is ripping off donors and wounded veterans by using only a small portion of the money raised for veterans services, according to testimony in Congress today.

Now in all fairness to Gen. Franks:
Chapin testified he approached Gen. Franks in 2005, and he agreed to let his signature be used on mass mailings seeking contributions to his charities.
"He helped us raise millions and millions of dollars more than we would have," Chapin told the hearing, chaired by Congressman Henry Waxman, D- Calif.
Congressman Waxman said Gen. Franks had since disassociated himself from Chapin's charities and asked that his name be removed from the solicitation.
"General Franks was paid $100,000 to lend his name. We understand he developed misgivings and asked that his name be taken off," Congressman Waxman said.

But one wonders, where did the 100grand go, back to this charity?, to another Charity, that is legit, or was it ever even given up!

Chapin also revealed that his charity paid $5,000 a month for the endorsement of retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Arthur "Chip" Diehl.
Contacted by ABCNews.com, Gen. Diehl said he had "no comment."

VETERANS' CHARITY INVESTIGATION PROMPTS STATE AND
FEDERAL ACTION

The undercover investigation exposed the truth about where your money to charity is really going.

It's Disgusting enough when Charities are formed for the benefit of the few, their founders and friends, but as we order our Military Personal into Wars of Choice and they continue to be Killed and Maimed at the same time more and more supposed charities are formed, giving little to the intended, it's Way Beyond Disgusting!

How many are Veterans that run these Charities, Especially War Theater Veterans?

Veterans Need To Visit O'Reilly and FOX New York Studio's

I just sent out a Heads Up to Vet Pax, which is the coalition of Veterans For Peace and Vietnam Veterans Against The War Chapters in and around New York City.

I had been thinking about what could be done on this issue of o'really and his total lack of not only knowledge, about the Plight Of Veterans Who Are Homeless, but his total lack of Compassion, wasn't that what his hero ran on, and Support towards Veterans in General.

lbear sent me an E which cleared the thought process.

My call to 'Vet Pax' was that they pay a visit to the New York City Studios of FOX News?, now FOX advertises itself as a News Organization, so Real News, they can report, should be brought to their attention.

That Real News is the Truth about the Plight of Homeless Vets, not a fairy tail, but The Reality!

Brandon has a post up over at Vet Voice about the billo, along with a video, from Brave New Films of interviews with Homeless Vets about billo's comments. Take a trip over to either link and view.

I have never been able to figure out where billo, or for that matter any of their so called news anchors? or reporters?, fit into a News? channel, but I don't watch it neither.

Some of the Vets in Vet Pax have, at one time or another, experianced the Homelessness, for a veriaty of reasons, and they now help out Iraq and Afgan Vets, male and female, who find themselves in situations that leave them in that situation.

Now the New York City area isn't the only area where this happens, nor is it the only FOX Studio.

I'm writing this as a call to Any Veterans reading it, if you're near a FOX Studio, anywhere in the country, get together and pay it a visit, bring some Real Facts about what Veterans go through, in this country of flag wavers and super patriots. Bring FOX some real news to report!!

Oh and tell them it's Time Billo Be Gone!!

U.S. on Canadian Torture Watch List

Canada puts U.S. on torture watch list: CTV

Omar Khadr's lawyers say they can't understand why Canada is not doing more to help their client in light of new evidence that Ottawa has put the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on a watch list for torture.

Khadr -- a Canadian citizen who was just 15-years-old when he was captured in Afghanistan more than five years ago and taken to Guantanamo -- has claimed that he has been tortured at the prison.

We have joined the likes of Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, China, and Israel on their list.

Video report

The article states that Surprisingly Getmo and Israel are on the list. Why should that be a Surprise. I wonder how many other 'Torture Lists' and 'Human Rights Violations lists' we, and they, are now listed on, as we've joined those we condemn ourselves for their records on Human Rights!

And it seems they wanted to keep this list out of site to public and world view!

But it appears that Ottawa may have had second thoughts about being so explicit. After the documents were released as evidence in a court case relating to Afghan detainees, the government tried to get them back. Sources say that Ottawa apparently wanted to black out sensitive parts that may anger allies.

"Anger Allies?", as Bush walks around talking Democracy and Freedom at the end of Invasions, Death, Destruction, and Occupations, Enhancing the Hatreds towards the U.S. as he threatens! Condemning others as we do what we accuse them of doing!

Veterans Talk Peace

VFP, and others, will have Another Radio Program to Stream on the Internet, besides "About Face" from Chapter 075 out of Phoenix, on Saturdays from 5pm to 6pm EST, Chapter 099 out of Asheville NC will give it a go as well on WPVM - The Progressive Voice of the Mountains.

After 4 years on Pack Square, protesters expand to radio

ASHEVILLE — In the middle of Pack Square, Kindra Phillips stood on a makeshift pedestal dressed as the Statue of Liberty with her mouth gagged. The light green fabric of her costume blew in the wind as honking cars drove by.
Phillips is one of 20 locally active members of Veterans For Peace. The organization, along with the local chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War, holds weekly demonstrations on Pack Square to get more people involved in anti-war efforts.

The two organizations are working together to launch a radio talk show on WPVM-FM 103.5 next week.

“We just had enough,” said Phillips, who joined the organization six months ago and served in the U.S. Navy for 10 months. “I couldn’t just sit at home and not do anything.”

Two members of Iraq Veterans Against War and one member of Veterans For Peace will host the 30-minute talk show. The organizations plan to feature news, interviews and guest speakers on the show. They also hope to discuss benefits and resources for veterans and air spoken word and music from area veterans.

“We want to give a voice to veterans because we don’t feel they are represented on a national, local or state level,” said Jason Hurd, Asheville chapter president of Iraq Veterans Against the War. “As much as a stake people put in us, we might as well have our opinions heard.”

Members hope that the radio show will get the same positive community response as that the rest of their work gets. In addition to the weekly demonstrations, they have collected almost $20,000 to rebuild an orphanage in Afghanistan. They also organize tabling, counter recruitment in area high schools and bus trips for local and national rallies.

“The response we get is normally very positive — much more than when we first started,” said Lyle Petersen, president of Veterans For Peace’s North Carolina chapter. “We used to get gestures and a lot of negativity at the start, but now it’s become more positive.”

For more than four years, members of the organization have been standing on Pack Square. They started the demonstrations on the day U.S. troops entered Iraq.
WPVM is a low-powered FM radio station broadcasting in Asheville and globally on the Internet and is run completely by volunteers and donations.

Vets Take to the Air
Unless a meteor hits the programming committee, “Veterans Voices” is scheduled to take to the air on WPVM every Wednesday at 5 pm, with Kindra Phillips (minus the gag) at the board.

Look for other new shows as the new schedule kicks in next week. Welcome to WPVM, all you new folks! This is your community radio station!

A Land Called Paradise

War Torn - part 1

The New York Times, Sunday 1-13-08, has an 'Eye Opening' Report, Across America, Deadly Echoes of Foreign Battles with this one only being Part 1 !!

A series of articles and multimedia about veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who have committed killings, or been charged with them, after coming home.

I'm only about halfway through it, tough reading, and memories flowing back of the reports of some, not so long ago, of my brothers of 'Nam!

These Reports, Articles, Discussions............. need to get the Traffic this form of Communication brings forth, so Others will Pickup these Extremely Important Subjects and Do More investigating and reporting!!

If we had todays technology yesterday, PTSD and other Results of War, would be right up there Alongside the 'War Is An Absolute Last Resort', and Wars of Choice wouldn't occur, at least by this Nation!!

These Conflicts will have Even More Devestating Results felt for even longer than any previous conflicts, for those Hatreds we are creating will be followed with destructive behavior, others are now striking back for our failed policies of the past as we add more in the present!

A Snippit of this report:

Town by town across the country, headlines have been telling similar stories. Lakewood, Wash.: “Family Blames Iraq After Son Kills Wife.” Pierre, S.D.: “Soldier Charged With Murder Testifies About Postwar Stress.” Colorado Springs: “Iraq War Vets Suspected in Two Slayings, Crime Ring.”

Individually, these are stories of local crimes, gut-wrenching postscripts to the war for the military men, their victims and their communities. Taken together, they paint the patchwork picture of a quiet phenomenon, tracing a cross-country trail of death and heartbreak.

The New York Times found 121 cases in which veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan committed a killing in this country, or were charged with one, after their return from war. In many of those cases, combat trauma and the stress of deployment — along with alcohol abuse, family discord and other attendant problems — appear to have set the stage for a tragedy that was part destruction, part self-destruction.

Three-quarters of these veterans were still in the military at the time of the killing. More than half the killings involved guns, and the rest were stabbings, beatings, strangulations and bathtub drownings. Twenty-five offenders faced murder, manslaughter or homicide charges for fatal car crashes resulting from drunken, reckless or suicidal driving.

About a third of the victims were spouses, girlfriends, children or other relatives, among them 2-year-old Krisiauna Calaira Lewis, whose 20-year-old father slammed her against a wall when he was recuperating in Texas from a bombing near Falluja that blew off his foot and shook up his brain.

This bus was totaled by fire, around 9:30 pm, Friday night, 1/11/08

It could have been machanical but Owner~Operator~Driver ( and Veteran ) Jim Goodnow who pulled into a South Jersey Truck Stop, to catch a 3 or 4 hour nap. In retrospect, remembers some suspicious activity outside the bus, and about 20 minutes later, the entire engine compartment, and back of the bus was engulfed in flames.

I received an e-mail about this yesterday with little information as none was really known at the time, Jim reportedly planned to notify the ATF Arson Squad on Saturday morning.

There is nothing up at the IVAW website as yet about the incident.

I did a few searches and couldn't find much, yesterday, except a couple of Veterans Yahoo Groups that had short reports w/pics that didn't post, about it. llbear found ,this short report at the Postland Indie Media site.

And this morning I found a report over at the Yellow Rose of Texas blogspot site titled "The YELLOW ROSE PEACE BUS DESTROYED BY FIRE!" with a few photo's

This bus, often mired in controversy since the IVAW "Dirty South" tour that left Philly in June, and had Active Duty BBQ's @ Ft Meade, Ft Jackson, Camp Lejeune, Ft Benning, and other Southern Military Posts (Including an IVAW benefit by Tom Morello, of Rage Against the Machine, and AudioSlave, in Virginia) as well as backdrop for many a Demonstration, and Ft Drum, NY, organizing parties, has finally died.

Again, this could have been a result of something mechanical causing the fire in the engine compartment. But as many of us Pro-Peace Activist know there are a few groups out there, no names or links need be placed, who are reportly being funded and have ramped up their so called 'Super Patriotic' rethoric, starting negative rumours about upcoming Peaceful Demonstrations, that are and have been welllllllll Peaceful, no matter the number of participants, from a handful to Tens Of Thousands! They also have become more violent in their speach and even actions towards the Peaceful Demonstrators, and they certainly haven't been peaceful themselves.

There is also this Video of the fire

over at the Yellow Rose of Texas Blogspot site.

The 'embedded link' and the 'url link', for the photobucket video, didn't work so I put it up on my Blip TV site.
