I've been trying to follow this but with a tad bit of confusion as to Webbs beliefs towards the Regime in power there.

His visit has drawn criticism from activists who say it confers legitimacy on a brutal regime. Webb is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's East Asia and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee.........

As have others! But opening up Diplomatic Channels, especially direct channels, are much better then sitting in Washington calling others extreme names and especially when not learning more about them but believing and making up our own propaganda, propaganda of condemnation, from our arrogance and apathy, while doing same as those we condemn!!

Remembering Navy Pilot Michael "Scott" Speicher

Speicher's Best Friend Says Homecoming is 'Bittersweet'

Buddy Harris says, "We got Scott." The remains of Captain Scott Speicher are back home nearly two decades after he left for the Persian Gulf War.

Harris was Speicher's best friend. He is now married to Speicher's widow, Joanne.

Harris spoke to the media for about 15 minutes outside of the NAS JAX chapel where Speicher's remains were taken. He would not take questions from reporters, but said it was a heartbreaking day for his wife and children.

"This is the ultimate definition of bittersweet," said Harris.....Rest Here

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The city, friends and military across the city gave a final salute this morning to Captain Scott Speicher.

The remains of the Navy pilot left the All Saints Chapel at NAS Jacksonville at 9 this morning, after military personnel paid their respects.

There was a steady stream of people through the chapel well into the night and again this morning.

The public salute to the fallen hero began at 9 a.m. when the procession left NAS Jacksonville for the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Wall downtown.

"The wall, to me, is the altar of freedom in Jacksonville," said Dan McCarthy, the former Military Affairs liaison for the City of Jacksonville. "It is where we come to remember the bravery of the men and women who serve our country. We were here not long ago for Memorial Day. We were here for Purple Heart Day. Now, today we come for Captain Speicher."...............Link to Rest Here and More

Organizer of 'Letters for Speicher' Campaign Remembers Fallen Hero

Jon Kern, a teacher at Mandarin Middle School, waited 18 years to hear what really happened to Navy Captain Michael "Scott" Speicher.

During the wait, he made it his personal mission to keep the memory of the missing hometown hero alive.

Kern created the Letters for Speicher Campaign, which ultimately led to a book in memory of the Jacksonville Captain missing since 1991.................

Mental Stress on Children of Deployed

Stress of war takes mental toll on military kids

Children of deployed service members at risk of psychological problems

Teens Cope with Parents at War

The years-long U.S. commitment in Iraq and Afghanistan is taking a significant toll on the children of service members, who are 2½ times more likely to develop psychological problems than American children in general, new research indicates.

The study, published this week in the Journal of Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, found that deployment of a parent was correlated to high stress levels in the parent who remains at home, which it said was linked to greater psychological impact on children.................Rest Here

Army Spc Justin Coleman Returns Home

Hundreds says goodbye as Army Spc. Justin Dean Coleman is laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery

As the doors of the hearse opened, revealing the flag-draped casket, a warm August wind caused the American flags at Florida National Cemetery to stand at attention.

A bagpiper heralded the arrival with Amazing Grace, and military pallbearers wheeled Army Spc. Justin Dean Coleman's casket along the crushed seashell sidewalk, the family trailing behind.

More than 200 mourners placed hands to hearts or stiff salutes to sweaty brows.

A prayer. Three volleys. Taps. And a folded flag for Spc. Coleman's young widow, his mother and his father...........Rest Here

Domestic Terrorist & Coward!!

William Kostric wears a 9mm pistol as he stands outside a town hall meeting on healthcare held by President Obama, in Portsmouth, N.H., Tuesday. Who was that gun-toting anti-Obama protester?

One of Tuesday's big mysteries was the motivation behind anti-Obama protester William Kostric, the man who brought a loaded gun to the town hall meeting and carried a sign referencing Thomas Jefferson's famous credo, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots."

Snip

But at least one of those statements doesn't seem to be true. A right-wing activist named "William Kostric," who's left a lot of footprints around the Web, is listed as a "team member" of the Arizona chapter of We the People, the far-right group best known for joining a lawsuit challenging Obama's right to be president based on his not being a U.S. citizen. Kostric told MSNBC he recently moved from Arizona to New Hampshire. (Kostric did not reply to Salon's e-mail request for an interview.).....................

Who is this William Kostric, the gun toter at a "Town Hall Democracy In Action" meeting with a President of the United States, a Domestic Terrorist or Coward?

That's easy to answer, He's Both!

Showing up at this Town Hall, citizens asking questions of their representatives in this case the President, meeting packing a loaded gun strapped to his thigh, like some modern day cowboy, causing many of those, especially with the many Children brought to experience an act of pure Democracy that the state of New Hampshire takes great pride in their long history of organizing and holding, to wonder when and if that gun was coming out of the holster and why!

A Coward because, while trying to act like some big tough guy male, he apparently was in fear of a large crowd and needed his security blanket to put fear into those around him, here in the United States!

A Domestic Terrorist, he needs to feel like a man by putting fear into innocents around him, well seems the message he was sending and standing behind was used before, and has been used many times in this countries history by the extremist within!

Oh and a Lier as well, not surprising, just read the above with the many back links embedded, showing just how much of a hypocrite, lier, and Coward this clown is, a dangerous clown but probably more so to himself and those around him then to this Country. After all he apparently isn't a muslim and certainly not african american or an illegal resident, hummmm birth certificate mr. kostric!

January 15, 2001: Southern Partisan T-Shirt Identical to One Worn by Timothy McVeigh at Time of Arrest

Factual Background:

Mid-1990s
Southern Partisan sells T-shirts celebrating the Lincoln assassination with a quote from John Wilkes Booth ("Sic Semper Tyrannis") on the front, and Jefferson's quote about liberty requiring "the blood of patriots and tyrants" on the back.

April 19, 1995
Timothy McVeigh is arrested after bombing the Oklahoma City federal building, wearing a T-shirt identical to the one sold by Southern Partisan. (Front and back views of the Southern Partisan shirt can be seen at FAIR's website.)

December 1995
Southern Partisan General Store sends out form letter stating: "Due to a surprising demand for our anti-Lincoln T-shirt, our stock has been reduced to odd sizes. If the enclosed shirt will not suffice, we will be glad to refund your money or immediately ship you another equally militant shirt from our catalog."

April 24, 1997
In his opening statement on day one of McVeigh's murder and conspiracy trial, the prosecutor described the T-shirt worn by McVeigh at the time of his arrest, as reported by the New York Times (4/25/97): It "showed the tree of liberty, with droplets of bright red blood where the fruit should be, and the slogan 'The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.' {The quotation is from a 1787 letter by Thomas Jefferson to Williams Stevens Smith.} On the front was a picture of Lincoln, emblazoned with the Latin slogan 'Sic Semper Tyrannis' [thus always to tyrants], shouted by his assassin, John Wilkes Booth."

Episode Three: Why We Fight

This is Where We Take Our Stand - The Series

Why We Fight from Displaced Films on Vimeo

Flashback to January, three months before Winter Soldier. How do you bring hundreds of veterans to Washington DC, to tell their stories? An IVAW national planning meeting reveals sharp differences among the members. Is the point of Winter Soldier to show how these wars are hurting America, or the destruction America is bringing to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan? Is the goal to strengthen the military, or weaken it? Despite the differences, a deep unity is built because, as Geoff Millard declares, the bottom line is “No one can hear our stories and still support this shit.”

Building Peace:

Veterans work to end wars

On July 25, Harry Patch, the last British veteran of World War I, died, marking the passing of an entire generation of veterans of the so-called "war to end all wars." What was most remarkable about Patch’s experience is that he came to believe that what he and his fellow soldiers had done so proudly in their youth had been in vain. At a remembrance ceremony on November 11, 2007, Patch explained:

"Today is not for me. It is for the countless millions who did not come home with their lives intact. They are the heroes. It is also important we remember those who lost their lives on both sides."

Patch didn’t talk about the war for 80 years, but he came to believe the casualties were not justified.

"I met someone from the German side and we both shared the same opinion: we fought, we finished and we were friends."

"It wasn't worth it."

Joining together to stand up for peace--first to end the Vietnam conflict and later, all wars--was a direct result of the social action of Vietnam veterans. Since 1985, Veterans For Peace have been dedicated to end war as a political policy, including members of the Phoenix Chapter. Other peace groups, such as Arizona Institute for Peace Education and Research (AIPER), have programs to help veterans, especially disabled vets. This is necessary because the previous administration relied on war to confront international issues but failed to take full responsibility for the troops who fought those wars for the politicians..........Rest Here

The number of Spokane-area veterans who killed themselves in a one-year period is far greater than the Spokane Veteran Affairs Medical Center knew at the time, a VA investigation has found.

The VA’s Office of Medical Investigations discovered that from July 2007 through the first week of July 2008, at least 22 veterans in the Spokane VA service area killed themselves, and 15 of them had contact with the medical center...........Rest Here

Drug Addiction in Afghanistan {UpDated}

After 9/11 and the Talibans refusal to turn over the al Qaeda leaders and others we invaded Afghanistan ridding that country of their leadership and Supposedly to go after the guilty of that huge criminal terrorist act against our Nation and People, Then We pretty much Left, taking our military personal and promised rebuilding money with us. The War Drums beat instead for invasion of an innocent country and it's people, Iraq, which became the overwhelming focus while smaller numbers of troops stayed in Afghanistan starting a long stagnated occupation.

Karima, 13, hopes to beat her opium habit. But she knows it will be hard in a country where opium abounds.
Afghan Women and Kids Fight Drug Addiction

Najiba's four kids Karima, Marjabin, Naqibullah and Hila range in age from 4 to 13. Like her, they are all opium addicts, reports CBS News correspondent Mandy Clarke from Afghanistan.

"I started taking opium more than a decade ago," Najiba says, "when my 7-year-old son was killed by a truck."

She started giving it to her children to keep them from shivering in the winter. They've all had treatment before, but poverty lead them back to drugs.

Najiba says opium, which she boils as a tea to suppress hunger pains, is cheaper than a meal and brings her family some happiness............Rest Found Here

Vast Supply of Opium is Problem for Entire Families
Fri Aug 07 2009
According to the U.N., there are a million Afghan drug addicts. But the actual number is at least double that with, women and children make up a quarter of those addicts. Mandy Clark reports.

If we had stayed in Afghanistan, and used the promised money, not only ours but the rest of the worlds at the time, we probably could have stopped the growth of addictions of these families, which has ramped up with the occupation and continued conflict, to the once readily grown poppies for opium, eradicated under the Taliban supposedly, but started back up as they were taken down with bumper crop growth each year since. It would have also helped suppress the growth of use around the world especially here in the U.S. as Afghanistan now supplies much of the illegal opium trade and we are seeing a growth of use here.

We probably would have even gotten the leaders of al Qaeda, our once good friend bin Laden and company, and saved invading another country right next door, Pakistan, saving even more lives and not creating more criminal terrorism across that country, the region and the international stage, along with growth of others terror cells attacking the policies of the west!

Now we have two destroyed countries that need rebuilding, not only the countries but the destroyed lives of the citizens of both, and we're still occupying both as Afghanistan has become even more deadly in the past couple of months. Tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands have been killed and maimed, whole parts of the cities, whole villages, vast area's have been destroyed and the people of have lived with their own multiple 9/11's, on large scale and small, daily.

Afghanistan Stopped Being About The 9/11 Attacks on this Country as soon as we started focusing on Iraq, now both are just Quagmire Occupations with the killing and destruction continuing in the stagnation of both operations theaters, that's what happens when one invades another's country and they fight back with enough rage in the residents of and stayed support from the rest!

Both countries will now be living with the results of these Wars for decades to come which brings on weaker Security for the Rest of the World, especially those who's militaries are occupying, and continuing the occupations!

And we give names to our policies, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, where's the "Freedom" coming out of the policy!!

We had a chance, coming out of our own devastation and anger, to be the country we like to say we are, think we are, and portray on the world stage that we are, we failed tremendously once again!!

Deja Vu All Over Again

The Biggest Difference between our long and deadly occupation of Vietnam, and the Vietnamese are still living with the devastating after effects of, and these two quagmires are the Vietnamese just wanted the occupiers out of their country, they forced the French to leave as they then did Us, they had no interest in fighting back against the policies of outsiders and they rebuilt. These two present quagmires started, long before 9/11, as a result of our long running failed policies and probably will continue, ramped up now as the hatreds have been. The residents of these countries will live in the aftermath of for the decades coming and some, it only takes a few, will seek retribution for what we've forced upon them, outside of their borders!

Heroin Use as our Soldiers Die......

Drug Busts Up, According to Police
Heroin Use Replacing Prescription Drug Abuse for Many Young Users

From California to New York, law enforcement agents are reporting a troubling rise in the use of heroin as availability of the drug rises and prices drop.

In Sacramento on July 30, federal prosecutors indicted 21 people on charges of trafficking 440 pounds of heroin into California.

On July 25 in New York's Suffolk County, police arrested two men with 17 pounds of uncut heroin in the biggest such bust in that county's history.

On July 21, authorities nabbed an East Palo Alto, Calif., gang member with 70 pounds of heroin stashed inside a Lincoln Town Car.

The growing number of arrests -- and deaths -- reported around the country point to a resurgence of the drug not seen since the 1970s. But unlike three decades ago, authorities say that today's heroin is much more potent. It is also finding its way to younger users, who are moving from prescription pills to harder drugs.............

Opium addiction ravages Afghan families
Scourge of remote villages leaves even babies hooked

Open the door to Islam Beg's house and the thick opium smoke rushes out into the cold mountain air, like steam from a bathhouse. It's just past 8 a.m. and the family of six — including a 1-year-old baby boy — is already curled up at the lip of the opium pipe.

Beg, 65, breathes in and exhales a cloud of smoke. He passes the pipe to his wife. She passes it to their daughter. The daughter blows the opium smoke into the baby's tiny mouth. The baby's eyes roll back into his head.

Their faces are gaunt. Their hair is matted. They smell.............
