VA Workshops for Families and Friends

VA offers workshops to veterans' families and friends

October 19, 2010 - Friends and families of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans--the Department of Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is here to help.

The VAGCVHCS will provide a free workshop to help family members and friends of Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans cope with the challenges of life beyond the battlefield from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 26. The VAGCVHCS will hold the first SAFE class for Northwest Florida at the Pensacola Vet Center.

Under its Support and Family Education program, the VAGCVHCS hopes to attract adult and adolescent family members and friends of Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans to educate them on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, combat stress, depression and other common issues that Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans have experienced upon their return home.

SAFE will be an ongoing effort and new topics will be discussed each month. Those topics include PTSD, problem solving, available community resources and more. Participation each month is voluntary. {read rest}
