Educators use Occupy Movement

Not saying it All but laying out the groundwork on only One of the Many issues the Occupy Movement encompasses, and there are Many, hear that MSM!

to Empower Students, Defend Public Education
FSRN: An unequal financial system that contributes to poverty and joblessness is an ongoing focus of the Occupy movement but little attention has been paid to educators

The many many issues, just read the posters and listen to the people, of the Occupy Movement are branching out with the help of those involved and their area's of concerns, joined together to embrace All that is now wrong with this society and has been for a couple of decades!
By The Way teabaggers, The Tea Party is Over and so are the phony meme's of the label of 'grassroots' everybody still keeps trying to label you with!
This is real grassroots, not corporate funded nor backed, and like many others before, and will continue to be, is built from the bottom up and those involved take activism and advocacy to their area's of concern from the mass movement which embraces it all!!

The christian? right on Wall Street

Someone mentioned after I posted these the other day:
That there were some photo's out there that showed pat robertson and his oh so christian? flock praying at the wall street bull. While doing some cleaning out I found I had a couple that I had forgotten I saved:
And low and behold there's even a video report on the Worship Service of their One True God!

Occupy, Oakland, Actually Help the Police

And what happens in return, well visit this post about the second seriously injured Veteran.

This was aired on CBS news tonight, 4 November 2011, short report but giving a clear explanation of what came down as to the violence in Oakland after a very strong and peaceful march and daily actions, and who are responsible for the negative non peaceful actions.

Is "Black Bloc" hijacking Occupy Oakland?
Peaceful protests by the Occupy Oakland movement were overshadowed this week by violent clashes between a small group of demonstrators and police. Now there's concern among the majority of protesters that their message is being hijacked. CBS News correspondent John Blackstone looks into this latest development.

snip

It wasn't the only time during a huge Occupy demonstration in Oakland this week that protesters found themselves on opposite sides. When dozens of black clad marchers began attacking a supermarket, others urged them to stop -- finally linking arms to protect the store from further destruction.

One demonstrator, Sheik Anderson, distanced most of the protesters from the violence.

"We called the mayor's office the moment we understood what was going on over there," said Anderson. "That was an anonymous action, that was nothing to do with Occupy Oakland. read more>>>

There have been a couple, only, reports today on the 'Black Bloc' and these surprisingly coming from the msm, who seemed to ignore the real reports as to other certain groups packing loaded weapons, and not just pistols, at very public very crowded gatherings including Presidential visits, with kids and many others there if something had gone wrong.

A thought on this 'Black Bloc'. Since they surfaced, some years back at many protests, I always get the feeling of DeJa-Vu back in the 60's and 70's and what we came to understand, especially as to the secret FBI files on many veteran brothers. Some of these leaders of these types of anarchist groups could be paid provocateurs, not hard to fill ranks to follow ones lead. Back then they were students some in SDS and of course actual undercover authorities of different law enforcement groups. Not saying these are, but it even mentions in this report that when they act they get the press not the peaceful protestors.

I don't need to bet, but will say I doubt the vet that was seriously injured, and not taken care of right away, wasn't in black nor wearin a mask, as we all know Scott wasn't!

Speaking of Scott. Got a short note from a VFP member, in a VFP e-mailing news letter, saying that he was in recent contact with him via computer and had caught him between dinner and a shower. He said that Scott relayed he's getting better, would like to be back on the Street for Actions in Oakland for Veterans Day but that might not happen as he still isn't quite up to par, naturally, and doubts the doctors would OK that or if he'd even be out of the hospital. Also said his mother is coming there to stay while he recuperates.

Second Veteran Hospitalized By Oakland Police

Breaking: Second Veteran Hospitalized By Oakland Police
November 4th, 2011 - Tens of thousands shut down the Port of Oakland Wednesday in what has been called a "General Strike". As night fell, police violently attacked protesters who had taken over a foreclosed homeless advocacy building. A U.S. military veteran was among those injured by the police violence. Below is a press release on his situation.

SECOND VETERAN IN AS MANY WEEKS INJURED BY OAKLAND POLICE

On the night of Tuesday, November 2, 2011, another veteran of the Armed Forces was severely injured at the hands of the Oakland Police Department. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit in an Oakland hospital. His name is currently being withheld at his request.

He was at the scene of the disturbance that happened after the General Strike that occurred earlier that day and was charged with resisting arrest and remaining present at the place of a riot. The veteran said he was beaten with nightsticks in his hands, shoulders, ribs, and back. He suffers from internal bleeding and a lacerated spleen.

This is the second time in as many weeks that a veteran has been injured at the hands of the law enforcement officials in Oakland. As you may recall, Scott Olsen; who is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War and who was deployed to Iraq twice; received a fractured skull and brain swelling when a law enforcement official fired a tear gas canister and it struck him. read more>>>

Kayvan Sabehgi, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is in intensive care with a lacerated spleen. He says he was beaten by police close to the Occupy Oakland camp, but despite suffering agonising pain, did not reach hospital until 18 hours later.

Environmental Risks Will Set Back Human Development

UN: failure to reduce environmental risks will set back human development
Droughts and rising sea levels could reverse efforts to improve living conditions of world's poorest people, report warns

2 November 2011 - Unchecked environmental destruction will halt – or even reverse – the huge improvements seen in the living conditions of the world's poorest people in recent decades, a major new UN report warned on Wednesday.

The 2011 Human Development report, from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), concludes that problems such as worsening droughts in sub-Saharan Africa and rising sea levels that could engulf countries like Bangladesh, could send food prices soaring by up to 50% and reverse efforts to provide access to clean water, sanitation and energy to billions of people.

"Continuing failure to reduce the grave environmental risks and deepening social inequalities threatens to slow decades of sustained progress by the world's poor majority," said the UNDP administrator, Helen Clark. The report argues that achieving sustainable ways of living must be approached as a matter of basic social justice for both current and future generations and address health, education and gender equality. "Sustainability is not exclusively or even primarily an environmental issue," said Clark, noting that the landmark summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2012, 20 years on from the Earth Summit, will be devoted to sustainable development.

The report is centred on the new national rankings of the UNDP's human development index (HDI), which combines measures of health, education and income. Norway, Australia and the Netherlands lead the world in the 2011 ranking, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger and Burundi the least developed. Cuba showed the greatest rise in ranking and Kuwait the greatest fall. read more>>>

$1 Trillion on Weapons Since 9/11

As the warhawks, and I might add all their war profiteers, wall street, investors, cry crocodile tears about much more needed defense spending, especially as they destroyed any sense of National Security. Which brings to mind how much has been spent on the now needed beefed up security measures that are not even completely up to par according to reports over these years.

While not demanding sacrifice as to the results of these and previous wars of choice, while the tepubs, back in control of the house have already tried cutting the Veterans Administrations underfunded budget.

Well someone did decide to see what we've spent of defense and Mother Jones has the report.

Report: Military Blew $1 Trillion on Weapons Since 9/11
Nov. 2, 2011 - A new study suggests that defense hawks are crying crocodile tears over planned cuts to Pentagon spending.

Capitol Hill conservatives and Pentagon brass fighting cuts to defense spending have argued that the military is limping off the battlefield with decrepit hardware. It's quite the sob story: At a hearing last week, Rep. Buck McKeon (R-Calif.), the chair of the House armed services committee, cut his remarks short to literally sob for "these young men that are going outside the wire over in Afghanistan, every day on patrol."

But a new report shows the US defense establishment is in much better shape than it claims: The DOD has blown roughly $1 trillion on shiny new tanks, ships, and jets since the 9/11 attacks—and it's often done so with dollars that were supposed to be spent on those troops on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan.{that deserves a highlight especially with the reports in the earlier years, Walter Reed, VA budget and more}

The Stimson Center study, "What We Bought: Defense Procurement From FY01 to FY10" [PDF], says the military is hardly in dire straits when it comes to funding its big-ticket items. "The services capitalized on funding to modernize their forces, especially the major weapons programs that constitute the heart of the services’ capabilities," writes the report's author, Russell Rumbaugh—a retired Army officer and ex-CIA military analyst.

The study shows there's one big reason the brass are concerned about budget-cutting discussions in Congress: They've been double dipping into the taxpayer's pocket to finance weapons purchases. Of the roughly $1 trillion spent on gadgetry since 9/11, 22 percent of it came from "supplemental" war funding—annual outlays that are voted on separately from the regular defense budget. Those bills are primarily intended to keep day-to-day operations running in Iraq and Afghanistan—meaning that if a member of Congress votes against a supplemental spending bill, she exposes herself to charges that she doesn't "support the troops" in harm's way. read more>>>

Just think how that could have helped the economy, especially as to real job creation while the 'job creators', and their congressional minions on our payroll, fight to maintain the 'supply side capitalism' that has so greatly enriched them!!

And I'm still wondering how much we paid countries to join the coalition, especially the ones who sent no soldiers or just a few, for that bush needed support.

With these questions and more, which should have been being asked now for years, and looking at the growth of the deficit, how much of that is not related to what came down after 9/11, the complete opposite of what should have been done!!

IVAW: VETERANS OF THE 99% CALL TO ACTION

Vets Especially, but those who also Actually Support our Brothers and Sisters, join with the IVAW Veterans and March Tomorrow, November 2, in New York City and and other Occupy Venues across the Country!

NYC IVAW CHAPTER: Call to Action
10/31/11 - Call to Action

Across the country Americans of all stripes are coming together in their cities and towns to demand government accountability and an end to Wall Street’s stranglehold on our political system. As the 99% movement has spread, the presence of veterans at rallies, marches, and occupations is becoming increasingly visible. Veterans who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, and even World War II have participated in the occupations, speaking out for the 99%, and raising the movement’s visibility in the process. Most recently, the unconscionable treatment of Marine veteran Scott Olsen has drawn national attention to veterans’ participation in the Occupy Wall Street movement.

We are veterans of the 99%. We have been directly affected by the economic and social issues raised by Occupy Wall Street. We are part of this movement, and we believe it is time for us to make our participation as veterans more deliberate and more visible. As veterans who have served our country in the military, we now have a unique opportunity to continue serving here at home through our participation in this civic movement. As veterans, our presence in this movement is itself an intervention in the evolving narrative about Occupy Wall Street.

snip

On November 2nd, members of the New York City Chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War and other veterans will come together at Wall Street with other Veterans of the 99%. We will march from Vietnam Veterans Plaza to Liberty Square (Zuccoti Park)—the heart of the Occupy Wall Street movement—and hold a press conference announcing our support for the 99%, and calling on other veterans and service members to join us. read more>>>

IAVA Statement on Scott Olsen Incident
October 28, 2011 - “Iraq and Afghanistan veterans come from varied backgrounds and represent diverse opinions. The strength of the new veterans community lies in our shared commitment to country, and veterans, like all Americans, should actively participate in the ongoing conversation about America’s future. And their safety is of paramount concern," said IAVA Founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff. read more>>>

That 1% and others, either directly or indirectly, have been reaping money from these two long running conflicts, if you have an investment account handled by a broker you too are probably building that nest egg off war. Yet that 1% especially are not Demanding the Sacrifice of the Country as to the results of these wars nor is anyone Demanding they should, specifically as to the decade long wars of choice!
