Why doesn't Israel work for peace?

Holocaust victims would decry the slaughter of innocent children during attacks on Hezbollah

BY SILVIA TENNENBAUM

August 4, 2006

As a Jew who escaped the Holocaust by moving with my family to America in 1938, I turn on the BBC at night. And what I see are clouds of black smoke, explosions; the dead and the dying - children crying bitterly, cities in ruins. Only yesterday, these piles of rubble in Lebanon were home to thousands. Now, the cars roll out onto the highways, white flags attached to the windshields and doors. More than half a million are homeless.

The Israelis told them to leave, but then strafed one convoy from a helicopter. The military people exert their force without pity. They win their wars proudly. They are the masters of force.

Using the most modern weapons the United States can supply to search out the Hezbollah guerrillas, the Israeli soldiers destroy Lebanon. They wreck all of Gaza, seeking to murder the leaders of Hamas.

Anniversary Of War That Hasn't Ended

The following is a Blog Post over at Veterans For America written by one Paul Sullivan. Why am I borrowing Pauls small but Powerful Post, well because he and his new friend are Absolutely Right and this is How The Iraq War Should Be Viewed, as a continuing Conflict that hasn't Ended Yet!

As Paul titles Painful Lessons Mark 16th Anniversary of Gulf War so shall I.

Pauls words: Here are my thoughts on the painful lessons of the Gulf War that started 16 years ago and never ended.....

Today, I met a man my age outside the train station near my home. As we waited for our wives to pick us up, we discussed the horrid heat and pollution in Washington DC, as temperatures soared above 100 degrees.

We agreed it wasn't as bad as the heat in Baghdad. Then he said he was a Gulf War veteran, and he said he was glad there were no bullets to didge here. I mentioned the Gulf War was 16 years old today, and he responded, "Shit, that damn war never ended, did it? That damn war was based on a pack of lies, too, just like the disaster in Iraq."

When one thinks about it, Pauls new friend is absolutely right, as Paul starts pointing out.

And, yes, today {yesterday} August 2, 2006, is the 16th Anniversary of the start of the Persion Gulf War, according to Public Law 102-25 {38 United States Code, Section 101, Paragraph 33}. That means the Gulf War, which was transformed into the Iraq War, with the second invasion of Iraq on March 19, 2003, is now the longest and most costly war in U.S. history.

Many Americans forget the embargo and sanctions between 1991 and 2003. Iraq continues to be bombed nearly every day for the past 16 years - twice as long as the deadly Iran - Iraq War, from 1980 -1988

Paul than carries us into the figures to attribute to this long running war, visit to read what I'm going to leave out, as I'm only going to add abit more.

He than gives some links to the lies like Kuwaiti Babies - Incubators

or

Powell on how the Iraqi's were ready to Invade Saudi Arabia

And remember April Glaspie, how could one forget.

Or the rummy shaking Saddams hand with a big smile.

Paul starts his ending with this:

So, while the news today provides 24/7 coverage of the Israel - Lebanon War, please remember these salient facts about what August 2 means for many Gulf War veterans.....

1.} Gulf War veterans still don't get full medical coverage

2.} Iraq War ans Afganistan War veterans are now waiting for medical care.

3.} Unemployment, divorce, and homelessness are higher for veterans than non-veterans.

4.} Lies were told o start the Gulf War in 1990.

5.} More lies were told to re-invade Iraq and start the Iraq War in 2003.

6.} To few people are directly involved in the war, less than one percent of our population served in Southwest Asia, that the public ignores the on-going war. Instead, there are tax cuts for the rich.

Many of us understood the connection to the Gulf War and the coming Iraq War. Many in Pro-Peace Groups were in Coalition, traveling to and helping out the Iraqi People during the sanctions. Reason that first DC Rally had tens of thousands of people, in that October, before the Invasion, while the area was being 'Terrorized' by Killers, caught just a few days prior to the Action. While San Fran added 10's of Thousands and Peace rally's around the country added who knows how many more.

Reason myself and other veterans were in DC for OPERATION DIRE DISTRESS only a few days after the illegal invasion, having been planned by Veterans For Peace and VVAW starting the few months prior.

Nope, the Gulf War never ended, and it continues to add to the totals of killed, maimed and destroyed minds!

Visit Pauls Post to read the whole, it isn't long, but hits important points. Wrap your brains around what we have done starting back in '91 and continuing today, now with total destruction happening in Lebanon, as we are supplying the ordinance and intelligence, In Our Names!!!!!

Let Me Add...

To above.

We controlled 2/3rds of the skies over Iraq, at least that's what we were told.

But we actually controlled the total airspace with at least our HighTech Spy Planes, logging every move, if we are to believe what we've been told how our money has been spent.

But watching Powell, at the UN made one wonder about all that technology!

We also were doing bombing runs etc., some we were told about, as reported being Iraq Anti-aircraft Artillery being taken out after firing on our planes.

What was really going on is anybodies guess, but We Never were out of War Stance with Iraq!!

Rocket Firing....

This explains it very well:

Hizbullah rockets cannot be fired from buildings
Tom Clonan
31/07/2006

Hizbullah has fired almost 2,000 missiles into Israel over the last fortnight, killing more than 50 Israelis and forcing almost one million into air raid shelters.

Despite this provocation, however, Israel's response has been sharply criticised as "disproportionate" in many quarters. In the aftermath of the deaths of dozens of innocent Lebanese women and children at Qana yesterday, even the US has urged the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) to modify their responses to Hizbullah's attacks.

IDF spokespeople are maintaining that Hizbullah had been mounting missile attacks on Israeli territory from Qana in recent days. The IDF has claimed it targeted the three-storey house in Qana at 1.30am local time in the belief it contained a Hizbullah "asset".

Any investigation into the targeting of this house will have to consider precisely what kind of Hizbullah "asset" could possibly have been hidden in a modest, low-rise building among the narrow streets of a village such as Qana.

The type of missiles being fired by Hizbullah at Israeli cities cannot be fired from within houses, mosques, hospitals or even UN facilities as has been suggested by the IDF. Due to the massive "back-blast" caused by the rocket launchers of these missiles, they can only be fired from open ground. To fire them from within a building would result in the instant death of the missile crew and probable destruction of the missile before launch. Most of the missiles are truck-mounted and are fired - on open ground - from the backs of flat-bedded trucks or larger four-wheel-drive vehicles.

When fired, these missiles generate an enormous flare of light, heat and sound energy - a heat and light signature which is readily detected by IDF target-acquisition systems. Accurate retaliatory fire can be directed at Hizbullah launch sites by IDF aircraft and ground artillery in seconds. Such a reaction would be considered by international military norms to be proportionate and within the general "rules of engagement".

In these circumstances, having fired their missiles, Hizbullah tends to disperse as rapidly as possible. It is unlikely that a flat-bedded truck with a multilaunch rocket-system mounted on it could be easily and rapidly hidden in a village as small as Qana. Nor is it likely that such a truck-mounted weapon or four-wheel-drive vehicle could easily be hidden in a house such as the one targeted by the IDF yesterday.

The pattern and circumstances of the attack are sinister. With no telltale scorch marks from a Hizbullah missile launch visible near the destroyed house, and with no Hizbullah fighters among the dead and injured, the question remains as to what kind of "asset" the IDF could credibly allege to have been contained within the building.

The timing of the attack, taking place as it did during a period of relative calm and not in the immediate aftermath of a Hizbullah missile launch, speaks of a punitive strike designed simply to kill members of the Shia community from which Hizbullah is drawn and receives its moral support. The targeting of unarmed Shia women and children would represent a deliberate targeting of innocent civilians for retaliatory or punitive purposes, and may well constitute a war crime.

WAR child USA

War Child USA is a nationally registered 501-C-3 charity dedicated to helping children affected by war by providing effective programs, advocacy and awareness.

War Child was first established in 1993 in the UK by two photojournalists who were shocked by news reports coming out of Bosnia and the former Yugoslavia. They pooled their resources to send material aid to help those in the region, with a focus on children, the most innocent victims of war.
From this initial endeavor, War Child grew into an international network united in the mission of assisting children affected by conflict.

War Child USA was founded in 2001 and currently maintains one of the lowest administrative cost ratios operating world wide, with 90% of each dollar sent directly into the field.

At present, we are operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan and Iraq. Our program in the DRC focuses on the former child soldiers, two words we believe should not go together, despite the 300,000 children currently serving in militias around the world.

For many children, the streets of southern Iraq are home and workplace. Left to fend for themselves within broken communities and family structures dismantled by war, many of these children are vulnerable and invisable to most aid organizations.

War Child has established local drop in centers to offer children a safe haven with funding from UNICEF and War Child Australia. These centers provide a range of activities from sport and excercise to the development of practical vocational skills such as mechanics etc. Counseling to children who are suffering the effects of trauma or drug addiction is also provided. Specially trained staff help to reintegrate children back into mainstream education along with teaching children about the dangers that surround them on the streeets, including the effects of landmines and unexploded munitions.

In Afghanistan, War Child has taken on children rejected by parents and family who have only the means of petty crimes to survive.

Because of the chaos of the judicial system, and a poor understanding of juvenile justice, these children are put into adult prisons, leaving a strong social stigma with few options rather than to re-offend.

War Child has succeeded in separating these children held in detention from adults and provided them with regular visits from family members, job training, education and social activities which go a long way toward helping these children re-integrate back into their families of origin.

Thank you to all Veterans for Peace supporters. We hope that together, our work will make a meaningful difference toward providing hope and the joy that each child should know everyday.

Their Baaaaaaack!! {To Look Like Bigger Fools!}

Vets set sights on Murtha

By SANDRA K. REABUCK

The Tribune-Democrat

The “Swift Boat” veterans who grabbed national headlines in 2004 when they attacked John Kerry in his failed presidential bid now are turning their sights to Johnstown.

Their target is U.S. Rep. John Murtha, a critic of the Iraq war and a de facto spokesman on the subject for the national Democratic Party.

Armed as a new group – Veterans for the Truth – they’re bringing their campaign to “Redeploy John Murtha From Congress” to his backyard.

They plan to hold a national rally in Johnstown in October “to show their outrage at John Murtha over what he is saying about our troops,” state chairman and former Johnstowner Mark Parker said in a release.

Details of the rally will be outlined at a news conference at 11 a.m. Thursday in front of Murtha’s office at 647 Main St.

Murtha, who will not be in his district office Thursday, appears unfazed by the pending “Swift Boat’’ campaign.

He is scheduled that day to be in Clarks Summit, Lackawanna County, campaigning for Democrat Chris Carney, who’s running against incumbent Republican Don Sherwood in the 10th District.

In a statement released by his office, Murtha said, “Nobody has done more for the troops than I have.

“This is a policy difference, and everybody has the right to an opinion.”

Murtha is running for re-election against Diana Irey, a Washington County commissioner, who has been critical of Murtha’s comments about the war and what she sees as his lack of support for the troops.

The news conference will be held by Craig Minnick, an Iraq war veteran and a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, and Harry Beam, a retired Army lieutenant colonel and Vietnam vet, both of Johnstown, and Parker, an Air Force veteran.

A guest at the news conference will be Larry Bailey, president of Veterans for the Truth. Bailey is a retired Navy captain and former commanding officer of the Naval Special Warfare Center. He co-authored the anti-Kerry book “Unfit for Command.”

Murtha, a retired Marine Reserve colonel, in 1974 became the first Vietnam veteran elected to Congress. He’s been known for his strong support of the military and on defense issues, working quietly behind the scenes with Republicans and Democrats alike.

But that changed late last year when – with mounting American casualties – he went public and called on the Bush administration to withdraw troops from Iraq and redeploy them nearby. His comments brought an eruption of emotions, both pro and con.

Bailey, in an interview from North Carolina, said he and other vets who were active in the 2004 Swift Boat campaign didn’t get interested in Murtha’s race until he went public about a Pentagon war crimes investigation.

In May, Murtha said the investigation would show that Marines had killed more than a dozen innocent civilians “in cold blood” Nov. 19 in the town of Haditha.

Bailey said those remarks were highly prejudicial “without any due process.”

At that point, Swift Boat veterans from the 2004 campaign were approached by Parker and other area vets about Murtha, Bailey said.

“We decided to get back together and put together a new organization to hold John Murtha accountable for what he said,” Bailey said.

Minnick said he and Beam have been discussing for “months and months” Murtha’s stands.

“We’re very tired of lies and distortions from Mr. Murtha on the Iraq war, and it’s time we get the correct information out” about the war, its purposes and the troops, he said.

The main speaker at the October rally is expected to be John O’Neil, a former Navy officer who served on Kerry’s swift boat during the Vietnam War. O’Neil was an active campaigner against Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign.

NO SHIT Hagel, Only Worse, Mutiple Tours For One!!!!!

Hagel: The Iraq War Is ‘An Absolute Replay Of Vietnam’

Four months ago, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) described the conditions in Iraq as a “low grade civil war.” Today, his view is much more bleak. In an interview with the Omaha World Herald, the Vietnam War veteran said that the country had descended into “absolute anarchy” and the war was “an absolute replay of Vietnam.”
Hagel also blasted the Pentagon’s plan to send 5,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq, saying the move was opposed by several four-star generals:
[Hagel] said that in the previous 48 hours, he had received three telephone calls from four-star generals who were “beside themselves” over the Pentagon’s reversal of plans to bring tens of thousands of soldiers home this fall.
Instead, top Pentagon officials are suspending military rotations and adding troops in Iraq. The Pentagon has estimated that the buildup will increase the number of U.S. troops from about 130,000 to 135,000.
“That isn’t going to do any good. It’s going to have a worse effect,” Hagel said. “They’re destroying the United States Army.
Hagel — unlike Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) — understands that “staying the course” in Iraq isn’t an option.

Families Joining Anti-War Group
July 28, 2006 By Karen Jowers, Army Times staff writer [Excerpts]
For some families of soldiers in the 172nd Stryker Brigade, the July 27 announcement of the extension of their tour in Iraq was just too much.
Some of them are joining the ranks of the anti-war group Military Families Speak Out. “We’ve had a whole group of people who have joined since the announcement,” said Nancy Lessin, co-founder of the group. She was working to get an exact count at press time, and said e-mails are still coming in to the organization.
“They are having meetings at families’ homes,” she said. “Many family members hold their breath until their loved one gets home,” and then speak out, she said.
“But something like this puts them over the edge.
“There has never before been a group of military families breaking the code of silence like this,” she said. “It speaks to the horrific nature of the invasion and now occupation of Iraq.”

The “Honest Broker’s” Plan for occupying Southern Lebanon
Mike Whitney

... President Bush and Tony Blair have come up with a plan for sending a UN multinational force into southern Lebanon to provide a buffer-zone for Israel. Why? The UN just withdrew its observers after their compound was "deliberately" flattened by a well-placed Israeli missile killing 4 of its staff. What makes Bush and Blair believe that a multinational force would fare any better? The real motive behind the initiative is to "militarize" ! the area south of the Litani River and "ethnically cleanse" the predominantly Muslim population. This is how Bush intends to stealthily annex more Lebanese land and create a new de-facto northern border for Israel. Hezbollah should reject this offer outright as a violation of its national sovereignty and an obvious attempt occupy its southern flank. If Bush and Blair believe that this is a reasonable offer, then they should not object to "militarizing" the ’67 borders between Israel and Palestine. That would force Israel to accept the "unanimous ruling of the international body" in resolution 242 demanding that Israel withdraw to the pre-war borders. Hezbollah chief, Hassan Nasrallah would undoubtedly give greater consideration to the present plan if the UN demonstrated that it was as willing to provide the same security guarantees for the Palestinians as it is for the Israelis. Let the multinational force protect the Palestinians first; then, we’ll see...

Does anyone STILL believe this Israeli war is over 2 soldiers?
Siege of Lebanon

17th day of attack and the results are… A report by the Lebanese Higher Relief Council reported that the number of casualties due to Israel’s continuous bombardment has been grossly underestimated. According to paramedics and emergency response crews, the true number of casualties could near 1,000 deaths. "In Tyre alone we had 125 dead and 150 missing or buried under the rubble", said Sami Yazbek the head of the Red Cross operations..!

The Children Refugees...

Ramzi Kysia, Siege of Lebanon

On Saturday, July 29th I spoke with several children from South Lebanon at a refugee center in the Chouf region. These are their stories, in their own words... Aboud Aboud, age 12, from Dar al-Hamis: "I’m here because of the Israeli bombing. I saw destruction and the killing of people, the voices of the bombings and the planes all around, and the news of what was happening everywhere. I was scared, especially of the voices of their planes. Israel want! s to take Hezbollah’s weapons, but they should not take them because if they do then no one will defend Lebanon, and it will be destroyed more than it is...
There should be a prisoner exchange and Israel to go back to their country. Hezbollah will not disarm, and [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah will not give in. I want to say to the Americans - don’t dream of destroying Hezbollah. They should come to Lebanon and see what is happening. If they don’t feel safe coming here then ask Israel to stop bombing for one day, and then they can come and see. We are children, refugees in schools, and we have the right to go back to our homes"...

Sectarian Torture Centers and Jails
Samia Falasteen

...What the U.S. has done is inflict the worst possible crime in the name of "humanity" by forcing their troops and allies into Iraq, killing innocent civilians and demolishing a society, while stripping the Arab identity of Iraq. It is a nation under siege. They have imposed imprisonment of the Iraqi people, while creating sectarian militias. Moamar, an Iraqi Human Rights Organization just revealed that there are 34 prisons under the sectarian and ethnic armed ! militias across Iraq, and that these prisons are under their control and administration. In addition, there are nearly 3,500 Iraqi prisoners in these jails, and many of these prisoners are considered missing. The prisoners are in poor health; food that is offered to them is not healthy and not enough...

Men, Women, Children: All of S. Lebanon is Hezbollah
Kurt Nimmo

Recall Haim Ramon, Israeli "Minister of Justice," telling the world: "Everyone in southern Lebanon is a terrorist and is connected to Hizbollah," in other words hundreds of thousands of people—women, children, babies, old people—will be subjected to brutal conditions for the crime of either resisting invasion and occupation or living near somebody who does. If you believe only Shi’a Muslims are doomed to suffer at the hands of the Israelis, take a lo! ok at this BBC video—the IOF is attacking all Lebanese villages in southern Lebanon, Christian villages included...
