Teaching by example

August, 15 2011 - "I can walk on my own path." So says the man who has no legs he can use. In fact he cannot even use a wheelchair because one of is arms is completely atrophied as well.

Tran Thanh Son's confidence in his abilities left his audience of some 200 people at the War Remnants Museum awestruck.

Their admiration for him grew as the 27-year-old teacher told them his story.

"My life is real. I'm an Agent Orange victim. I learnt to face the truth when I was a child," said Son, adding that a strong sense of optimism helped him overcome limitations imposed by his physical constraints.

"I believed only knowledge would help me make me a living and a fortune."

But how did he go to school ?

"My father carried me on his back. He stands tall behind all my achievementss," Son said.

His father died of liver cancer when he was studying at the university. Son continued to go to school on his relatives' backs.

Son faced many challeges on his way to finishing his studies with the Information Technology department at the University of Natural Sciences under HCM City National University.

Then he chose teaching as his career "it increases my energy." read more>>>
