This is the first of a two-part series about the mental-health challenges facing many Oregon National Guard troops returning from their deployment in Iraq.

Around 2,700 Oregon National Guard members are making their way home from deployment.

The Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs estimates nearly 40-percent of the returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan will face some sort of mental health issue related to their deployment, and 20-percent of veterans will meet criteria for post traumatic stress disorder.
