Public Event: Representing Casualties of the Iraq War

16 May 2011 - On Monday, 13 June 2011, John Sloboda, Co-Director of the Recording Casualties programme and Iraq Body Count, will be in conversation with artist David Birkin at The Speakers’ Society on the subject of documenting civilian casualties since the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Iraq Body Count is a project, which represents casualties of the Iraq War to achieve political and humanitarian impact. Artists working in various media have also represented casualties, sometimes drawing on the work of Iraq Body Count and similar projects.

What kinds of impacts have been intended or achieved by these projects? Do political and artistic projects work on separate tracks, or can they be productively aligned? {continued}
