January 3, 2012 - Members of the public can initiate a Defense Department declassification review under procedures published by the DoD on Dec. 22.The procedures require that members of the public be able to specify with some specificity the documents they want declassified. A "broad or topical" request such as "any and all documents concerning" a subject falls short of the review standard, the DoD says. Specific components submitted a declassification review request must be able to locate the document according to information such as the originator, date, title, subject, National Archives and Records Administration accession number, "or other applicable unique document identifying number," the procedures state. read more>>>
